| No introduction is needed for Duke Nukem 3D, one of the best games ever. It was first published in 1996 and its source code was released as free software in 2003. As a consequence, the game was ported by fans to many operating systems and is still being supported and developed. One of the major enhancements is the High Resolution Package, which allows you to play Duke in modern screen resolutions with beautifully redesigned textures and 3D monsters. This torrent contains the EDuke32 application that I compiled by following the instructions on http://wiki.eduke32.com/wiki/Building_EDuke32_on_Mac_OS_X . It will run all versions and add-on packs of Duke Nukem 3D with and without HRP. I have included the following add-ons: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach (HRP) Duke it out in DC (HRP) Duke: Nuclear Winter (HRP) Duke!ZONE II Nam WWII GI Alien vs Predator Note that only the official add-ons have HRPs. Furthermore, the Caribbean and Nuclear Winter HRPs are not yet complete so you will see a mixture of high-res and low-res textures and sprites. Installation Instructions: 1. Unzip opt.zip and place the opt folder in your computer's root directory (usually Macintosh HD, unless you changed its name). You will need to give an administrator password. Note: the opt folder contains libraries that are called statically by Eduk32 so it must be placed in the root directory. If you have already installed Macports skip this step and just make sure you have installed the libvpx, libogg and libvorbis ports. 2. Unzip EDuke32.zip and place the EDuke32 folder in your ~/Library/Application Support/ folder. If you don't know how to do this, go to the Finder, select Go -> Go to Folder … and type in ~/Library/Application Support/ then place EDuke32 in there. Alternatively, you can place the EDuke32 folder in /Library/Application Support/ (so that it's available to all users) 3. Unzip Duke Nukem 3D.zip and place the Duke Nukem 3D folder in the Applications folder (or anywhere else on your hard drive). You must keep all the contents together in the same folder. Playing the Game: 1. To play Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition with HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on EDuke32.app 2. To play Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition without HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playatomic_no_hrp 3. To play Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach with HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playcarribean 4. To play Duke it out in DC with HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playdc 5. To play Duke: Nuclear Winter with HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playnuclearwinter 6. To play Duke!ZONE II with HRP: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playdukezone2 7. To play NAM: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playnam 8. To play WWI GI: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playww2gi 9. To play Alien vs Predator: Navigate to the Duke Nukem 3D folder and double-click on playavp. Note: the AVP files are not complete. You will need to select New Game -> User Map from the game menu and choose one of the following maps: ASHIP.MAP, ATMP.MAP, CAVERNS.MAP, MEDLABS.MAP, NCOLONY.MAP, NOSTROMO.MAP, WATERF16.MAP Note: EDuke32.app and Mapster.app are applications. The other files in the Duke Nukem 3D folder are executable scripts. All you have to do is double-click them. Apart from running the game, they will open a terminal window. You don't need to worry about this, just quit Terminal once you have finished playing. Note: Mapster.app will allow you to build your own maps. |
